The collection, arranged by family name and then by individual, includes original with some typed transcripts of family letters, diaries, legal documents, poetry, personal items, and visual materials. Notable portions of the collection include typescripts of letters of Charles A. Blair and his wife Effie Blair who lived in Jackson, Michigan. In letters to his brother Charles, George Blair wrote of prospecting for gold in Wyoming in 1876. later, with his other brother, Fred Blair, George attempted unsuccessfully to establish a pineapple plantation in Florida, ca. 1895-1901.

Charles A. Blair, son of Governor Austin Blair, was born in 1854, and spent most of his life as a resident of Jackson, Mich. He was admitted to the bar in 1876, and practice law in Jackson until elected attorney general in 1903.
